چکیده

Numerous plastic devices and materials used for medical, dental, and food collection, processing, and packaging are made of poly(vinyl chloride) and plasticized mainly with di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) to impart the desired physical and chemical characteristics. Some finished products may contain more than 40% plasticizer, which may be leached from the material by blood (1) or milk (2) or various other solutions. DEHP has generally not been considered to be a health hazard because of its low acute oral toxicity (3-10) and because the amount of DEHP leached from plastics is quite small. However, there is evidence that DEHP is not readily hydrolyzed but accumulates in body tissues. When two patients

Recent Studies on Toxic Effects of Phthalate Esters on Reproduction and Development: Focus on Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate and Di-n-butyl phthalate

Phthalate esters extensively used as plasticizers in the plastic industry, are suspected of being endocrine disruptors. In this article, data for toxicity and the possible mechanisms of phthalate ester action in rodents are summarized for each endpoint related to reproduction and development, based on the latest research. As it is considered that the hydrolyzed metabolite of phthalate esters, t...

Evaluation of the Phthalate Esters in South Indian Women with Endometriosis

Background To evaluate the possible association between phthalate esters (PEs) and the occurrence of endometriosis. Blood samples were collected from 99 infertile women with endometriosis (study group); 135 age-matched women without endometriosis (control group) but with infertility related to tubal defects, fibroids, polycystic ovaries, idiopathic infertility and pelvic inflammatory diseases d...

Chronic di-n-butyl phthalate exposure in rats reduces fertility and alters ovarian function during pregnancy in female Long Evans hooded rats.

Testis function in fetal and peripubertal male rats is disrupted by subchronic exposure to phthalate esters (PEs). In contrast to the male rat, it is generally held that reproduction in female rats is much less sensitive to phthalate-induced disruption. However, the current study demonstrates that oral administration of dibutyl phthalate (DBP) to female Long Evans (LE) hooded rats from weaning,...

Chronic Toxicity of Di-n-butyl and Di-n-octyl Phthalate to Daphnia Magna and the Fathead Minnow

The toxicities of di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) and di-n-octyl phthalate (DOP) were assessed by measuring the effect of exposure to these compounds on the fecundity of Daphnia magna and on the hatching and survival of the early life stages of the fathead minnow Pimephales promelas. For D. magna, exposure to 1.8 mg/L DBP or 1.0 mg/L DOP caused a significant reduction in reproduction. Doses of 0.56 ...

The Effect of Di-butyl Phthalates (dbp) and Di (2-ethylhexyl) Phthalates (dehp) on Female Rats Fertility

Phthalate esters are industrial chemicals widely used in cosmetics, plastics bottles and medical devices, and the risk of exposure to phthalates is on the increase. In recent years, many studies have been carried out on the possible health hazards of phthalates, including the effect on reproduction. In this study rats were injected twice weekly with Di-butyl Phthalates (DBP) or Di (2-Ethylhexyl...
